Indubitably Dubstep Vol. VII

6 Jan

To my loyal Dub-Minions,

I have returned from the warmth of the south, kicking and screaming all the way back to the frozen tundra I call my home. It has been a while since I have seen all that strange, flaky white substance falling from the sky, but after one glimpse of the madness approaching Southwestern Ontario over the next few months, I think I made a good decision to get my ass back in that parka. I don’t mind though, seeing how so many DJ’s will be coming to melt the snow [and faces] off everyone with half a brain who bought tickets already. 2011 is really starting off with a bang, as there are loads of albums awaiting to be dropped, like Nero’s new album set to be released in the coming month, as well as a slew of sweat-drenched nights in clubs all over the country.

While cruisin’ the south on vacation these past couple weeks, it became painstakingly apparent to me that clubs would rather play the same old garbage night in and night out, sticking to the same boring Top 40 bullshit that people like Ke$ha, Taio Cruz and Justin Beiber have shat on and called ‘home’. Occasionally I would hear a Deadmau5 track (usually the classic, but overplayed ‘Ghosts N Stuff’) or Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP’s ‘We Speak No Americano’ but beyond that people seem to be stuck in a Billboard coma. At about the 5th rendition of B.E.P’s ‘Dirty Bit’ one night, I decided that enough was enough and ventured over to the DJ booth where I began to plead to the DJ to throw on some Dubstep in order to save his and everyone in the club’s souls. He turned to me and said “I can only play music that will make people wanna dance”. He was wrong on so many levels. For one, there were maybe 10 people on the dancefloor, 6 of which looked like they were just waiting for the YMCA song to come on, the others just casually nodding their heads along to what I think was Miley Cyrus’ ‘Party in the U.S.A’. Secondly, how could he even think that by throwing on some down right dirty basslines and heavy drum beats would make people do less dancing than what was already going on? Too enraged to argue any further, I stormed out of the club and ran as quickly as I could to my laptop for some much needed Dubstep-medication. For all of you who have gone through the similar pains as I have, I feel for you and urge you to listen to these filthy tracks if you are in need of some serious earhole treatment. Oh, and I DARE you not to dance dirty to these gems.

Signed Sincerely, Dr. Robotnix

Indubitably Dubstep Vol. III

28 Nov

Another week has passed, mother nature is turning into the cold bitch she normally becomes, the sun basically calls it quits at like 2pm and school decides to shove its fist just a little deeper up our asses….singing ‘It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year’ seems a tad ironic, doesn’t it? At least this week you can count on some really fucking great tunes to take your mind off of Hell freezing over.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

Bassnectar

Doesn’t it seem like Bassnectar always finds his way onto this site? Is it pointless to keep posting new tracks of his every other day? Shouldn’t I just wait for a bunch of new tracks to get released then put them all on one huge Bassnectar post? Shouldn’t everyone who agrees with me find a tall building and jump off it head first?

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

Nero

I don’t think you need psychic powers to realize that 2011 will be the year of Nero. Set to release their first dubstep album early next year, Nero has been going on a tear recently seeing their songs skyrocket to the top of HypeMachine, and Beatport, and also had one of the best mix’s of the year on BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix early November. Their remix of Calvin Harris’ gemstone ‘You Used to Hold Me’ isn’t a super heavy song, but in laying off on the epic beat drops, they created a non-stop dancer from start to finish.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

Sekklow

K, so if you are guys are looking at this and going, “Who the fuck is Sekklow???” you’re not alone. Before hearing this song I probably would’ve told you Sekklow is some sort of European-brand prophylactic. Well I would’ve been half right at least; Sekklow is a Drum and Bass, Dubstep, Electronica DJ hailing from London, UK. He is basically a very low profile DJ (his Myspace page has a bit over 20000 views and around 170 friends) with tons of talent. If his resume consisted of this song only, I would hire him for any job available, regardless of its affiliation with music. I hope to hear more from this unheralded beast very very soon.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

Doctor P

Another Dubstepper from the UK, albeit much more famous than Sekklow, Doctor P remains one of the premier DJ’s who have really yet to disappoint on basically everything he’s done. He has lend his hand to so many different DJ’s, and in 2009 he and good friend Flux Pavilion created Circus Records, signing major DJ’s like Cookie Monsta and Brown & Gammon. This song sounds like a video game freezing, then subsequently exploding in 8-bit harmony. Remember to always blow the bottom of the game before jammin it in!

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

Prime

I am so excited for all of you to listen to this next track. Prime somehow snuck into my dreams Inception style, killed some evil dream dudes and stole one of my ultimate dreams and made it into a reality. I probably wouldn’t be exaggerating when I say that at some point in time everyone was singing this song. It was so geniously catchy and obscene that I’m pretty sure my elementary school banned people from singing that song on school property. But don’t feel bad, my school tried to ban Halloween too. Assholes. Time for some revenge.

Extra Childhood-Memory Redub!

Glass Animals

I don’t know much on Glass Animals (this was the only pic I could find….I don’t even know whats going on up there) all I know is he/she/they/it can make one hell of a sick dubstep track. The beatdrop uses some serious synth and bass, and the vocal effects lend a eerie kind of tone throughout the entire song. Definitely a must-grab.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

At Dawn We Rage

I love getting new remixes of Deadmua5. Whether its dubstep, trance, DnB, Deadmau5 just seems to create ideal music for genre-bending. I think this is where electro music is heading, to a more unified, genre-less domain led by the likes of Deadmau5, Skrillex, Porter Robinson, etc. One half of At Dawn We Rage is DJ-producer LightsoverLA, so you know you can expect big things from this track. Oh btw, Mau5 man himself will be coming to Toronto for Boxing Day. Make sure to get your ass out of Wal-Mart and into a serious party.

Indubitably Dubstep Vol. II

DUBSTEPPERS REJOICE!!!! I have returned to you all with yet another installation of my favourite Dubstep songs that have been on constant repeat in my headphones for the last little while. Some of these have been circulating the web for a while now, but they will still give you the auditory equivalent of a brainfreeze, and may even rip a hole through your body and into another dimension. That’s my warning to all of you; I’ve done my part, now go get your mind blown (figuratively speaking, of course).

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

My oh my has the Fresh Prince created some real class acts hasn’t he? One kid is following in his father’s footsteps, making shitty ass movie remakes of classics, and the other is teaching young kids everywhere that it is cool to get whiplash. I’m definitely not a fan of the original, seeing how nails on a chalkboard never really got me off, but this version takes all the pre-pubescent poop stains out of it and turns it into something that I really wouldn’t mind whipping my hair back and forth to (considering I’m taking advice from a 10 year old).

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

It’s shocking that this song has managed to somehow stay fresh for so long. ‘We Speak’ has been remixed more times than Lindsay Lohan has had coke snorted out of her asshole, but the top prize would have to go to High Rankin’s wobble-tastic version. This remix is packed with what can only be described as the filthiest of the filth basslines and synth while always sustaining that original sound throughout. A must listen for any fans of the original (ummm so…pretty much everyone).

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

Two absolutely MONSTROUS remixes right here. The first one takes the Mau5 banger ‘FML’ and turns it into what can be the closest sounding thing to a killer robots maniacal heartbeat. The second is another excellent remix of one of 2010’s biggest hits. I remember as soon as I heard ‘Animal Rights’ I knew someone out there would have the right size cohones to create a dubstep version of an already amazing song. Dylan Sanders really makes this song dig another layer deeper into your soul, making it even harder to get out of your head. Grab both of them immediately, before you self-destruct.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

Bar9 really has made a name for himself this year. Securing a spot on the top of Beatport really helped launch his career right through the stratosphere and all those other fucking spheres we got floating up there. This one has been around for a little while now, but I think it is one of the most EPIC sounding dubstep tracks out there. The vocals mixed with the heavy beatdrops will turn any atheist into a true dubstep fanatic (yes, dubstep IS a religion). Download and keep the faith, my friends.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

This track has got a more laidback, chill vibe to it. Not to say that you wouldn’t be able to rock out with your cock out (anytime is the right time for that) but this one is more of a driving-in-my-low-rider-speaker-blaring-tit-exploding kind of tune.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

This is what they mean when ‘you save the best for last’. One of the hardest working DJ’s in the entire world, Bassnectar is always delighting his fans with new and innovative stuff. I can honestly say that I will never ever EVER get sick of listening to this man’s music. He has yet to disappoint fans who come out and support his live sets and this is quite the feat, considering he has literally not stopped touring a single day the entire year. Seriously, go check out his recent tour dates. I am so amazed his heart hasn’t just packed up and peaced right out of his chest.

EXTRA SPECIAL TREAT!!!!!!

This is a download link to a live mix Bassnectar recently did for BBC Radio’s Annie Nightingale (long lost relative??). Almost 30 minutes of his top songs, mixed together beautifully with some Classic tunes everyone will recognize. (Props to Bassnectar for including the Morrison intro).
